What is a Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) used for?
PRVs bring down the pressure of water coming into your home from the street.
The local water district recommends your pressure be set to 60-70 psi (pounds per square inch).
High pressure can cause damage to pipes by causing water hammer (knocking in the pipes), eventually causing hoses to your washer, sinks, or toilets to burst.
Low pressure makes washing dishes and clothes take longer and showers less satisfying.
